Old stars in a young Universe
One of the
most difficult questions that, as a "recent creationist" I encounter is
that of how can the Universe be only thousands of years old and appear
millions of years old when we look at the stars and galaxies. There are at
least three explanations that creationists have used. The newest one
developed by Dr. R. Humphreys and published in the book "Starlight and
Time" is the most satisfactory. He has proposed using Einstein’s General
Theory of Relativity and changing the assumptions from the "Big Bang"
model to derive a young universe. Another explanation is that the creation
was made fully functioning and the light from long distances was put in
place at the moment of creation. Finally, the third is that when God
created light on day one all of space was full so that when the stars were
created they only had to "push" light out at the other end, like a full
hose sprays water the instant you turn it on. Incidently, 90% of the mass
needed for the Big Bang model missing. Astronomers call it cold, dark
matter; can’t see it, can’t find it but it MUST be there if the Big Bang
is true. Incredible faith but poor science.
