The debate about cloning, stem cells and embryos has heated up to the point that Christians should understand some of the basic scientific facts about when and how life begins. This article will be a simple explanation that can be understood by most students. God has chosen to let man and most animals reproduce by means of two different individuals, a male or father and a female or mother. We call this sexual reproduction. Because these two are different the diversity of the potential children is immense. Scientists have estimated that two people can have 10 followed by 2,017 zeros number of children before there will be a duplicate. This is a HUGH potential for diversity. These instructions to build a person are written in most of our cells in pairs of chromosomes containing DNA. These instructions are very specific and contain billions of letters in the four letter DNA alphabet. A new person is created when these instructions are united in the miracle of conception. One set of chromosomes from each parent is united into a pair to form a new individual as the egg and sperm come together. At that point ALL the information that is needed to form this person is COMPLETE. This cell, called a zygote, needs nourishment, protection and time to form a fully grown adult. This single cell is fully human!!! These facts tell us why abortion is murder.
