Carnivorous Behavior
When we observe nature today we see a great deal of barbaric behavior; animals eating other
animals alive, killing by tearing the bodies apart, etc. How did this
carnivorous behavior come about? Evolutionists say that this is part of
the constructive process that brings progress in evolution. "Nature red in
tooth and claw" has been their cry. But as a Biblical Creationist we must
take a very different view. We believe that man and animals were created
to eat plant material. It tells us in Genesis 1:29-30
"And God said, ‘See,
I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all
the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for
food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to
everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given
every green herb for food’; and it was so." There is no reason to believe
that they didn’t all obey God’s command since the garden was very lush with
food. There was NO reason to kill to eat. When Adam rebels against God,
death enters the creation and killing for food becomes possible. I don’t
personally believe it becomes dominant until after Noah’s flood since food
is readily available in the preflood earth. After the flood the "new
world" has much less vegetation and to survive animals will have to kill
each other for food. This explains why the dinosaurs, for example, became
extinct. So, carnivorous behavior was NOT part of the original creation,
although possible after the "fall" it probably didn’t become dominant until
after the flood.
