Lizard Scales and Bird Feathers

O

The information in this fact of the month is drawn primarily from a presentation by Dr. David Menton at the AIG Creation 2001 conference held near Cincinnati on the Labor Day weekend. One of the present contentions by a large number of evolutionists is that the ancient reptiles called dinosaurs evolved into birds. This transition would necessitate the transformation of the reptilian scale into a bird’s feather. Since this change is very substantial we should expect to find a large number of transitional forms making this transition. NONE have ever been found. The reptile scale is a fold in the skin that is shed from the whole body as a unit as the animal grows. Close examination shows it is made of the same kind of cells throughout, while the bird’s feather is not. The scale is designed to protect the animal, while the feather is designed for flight. Let us examine the feather closer. It is; designed for flight, light weight, waterproof (in most birds, but not all), conserves body heat, excretes body waste (a pink material in the flamingo) and is unique to birds. The shape is designed to create lift in flight. It has three kinds of color; melanin, waste products and a double interference layer that creates the iridescent colors. Muscles control the movement and the feathers on opposite wings molt at the same time. Even Archaeopteryx, the often cited reptile bird-reptile transition has FULLY FORMED feathers. It’s very obvious to me that the feather was designed by God for the bird and did not come from the reptiles scale.
