God’s Wake-Up Call

Blog 2018 05. Several times personal health events caused major changes in life priorities because I realized, again my life is just a vapor. Each time I would commit to spend as much time as possible on eternal things.

Almost 40 years after becoming a Christian, God again called me to consider His great mercy in Christ. Now living in Carlisle, PA., on March 3, 2107, I had a minor heart attack. Triple bypass surgery was performed on March 20, 2017, forty years to the day from my conversion. God gave me a new heart in 1977 and renewed my heart again in 2017. Both heart attacks were God’s calls to draw me to greater commitment to Christ.

This most recent call was Saturday 1/27/2018. Returning home for lunch from a meeting at the Bosler Library, in Carlisle, I suddenly doubled over in severe pain like nothing I’d ever experienced before. I have been studying with some Christian brothers the connection between Romans 8:28 and I Thessalonians 5:18. “ALL things work together for good” and “Give thanks in ALL things.” A sudden reality confronted me: “Could I give thanks, NOW. The pain was overwhelming. My highly inflamed appendix burst. A normal 1-hour surgery took 2 ½ hours because of all the clean-up it required. I came home 24 hours later, and healing is finally complete three months later. BUT the most important lesson I learned was to see up close and personal my mortality and the connection of ALL things in His purpose. In Christ, we need to be thankful even in the darkness and pain. All things DO work together for good and I WILL thank Him in ALL things

So, when you get discouraged, in pain or depressed, PRAISE GOD. Give thanks in ALL things and ALL circumstances. God is working for your GOOD in those hard, dark, painful times. Find help in the Hymn lines:

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!

My sin, not in part but the whole,

Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Charlie became a Christian at age 35, converted from hard-core atheism. Understanding the atheistic worldview and often hearing the “hard” questions the world uses to stump believers, he searched the Scripture to see how Jesus got past those questions. Jesus knew how to reach every person he encountered and you can too. In 2012 Charlie taught this strategy to a group of Christians. It was so well received he put it into book form, hence, two books, published in 2015. Charlie becomes a published author!

Blog 2015 01. At age 70, in 2012, I was teaching a Christian Business Men’s group a series of lessons on personal evangelism. Week after week I heard a common refrain, “I don’t share the Gospel because of all questions I can’t answer that my unbelieving friends and family ask me.” Jesus was often asked questions and he frequently answered them with another question to expose the questioners’ motives and presuppositions. He was using a strategy anyone could use to get to the Gospel without first directly answering the questions. Since I’ve taught college Business subjects for the last 12 years, I developed a series of lesson plans to teach from. I. After I finished teaching each lesson some of the men asked if I would give them the plans so they could share these concepts with other believers. As I shared this experience with one of my spiritual mentors Bob said, “Why don’t you write a book explaining this concept? I took this as a call to work and I began to put Always Be Ready to Give an Answer! together. It took a lot of Bible study to fully develop this concept of effective personal evangelism. As I did I realized just how much Jesus used this approach in dealing with the Pharisees, the rich young ruler and many others. After I’d completed an outline and several chapters I was discussing this concept with another Christian brother and he said, ” . . . but eventually you need to answer their question.” I agreed and the second call for me to write came to write ANSWERS for: “The Hope That Is In You”.

I became a Christian at 35 and by the time I was 40 was doing ministry related to creation, science and the Bible. I worked for Answers in Genesis for a short time in those early years. In the mid-1980s I set up a web page http://www.sixdaycreation.com that allowed readers to ask questions that I would then answer. After more than 20 years of Q and A I developed answers to over 100 common questions the world asks Christians. So, my second book began. As I wrote answering over 100 questions, I added analysis of the differences between Biblical Creation and Atheistic Evolution. Both of these books went live in mid-2015

As I read ANSWERS during one of the proof steps I realized I’d been critical of Evolution but I really hadn’t made a strong case against it. So, book three was written, Without 3 Miracles Darwin’s DEAD! describing the three miracles that make Atheistic Evolution IMPOSSIBLE. The three miracles are: Magic, something coming into being from nothing, Frankenstein, living organisms coming from dead chemicals and Uphill Molasses, the uphill flow of the ever-increasing complexity of Evolution in a Universe that is running down.
