The Book. Charlie & Terry Liebert both became Christians in their mid-life in their 30s.  Now 81 and 76, after 53 years of marriage, they face their greatest life tragedy, the sudden unexpected suicide death of their son at age 51, after 19 years of military service.  Charlie started writing and publishing in 2010 and by 2022 authored and published 17 paperback books and 19 eBooks on Kindle.  In addition, he published 15 books for other authors.  Journey with them as they agonize through three more levels of grief.

  • Grieving for a sudden, unexpected death, Recognizing the transitory nature of death from the Scripture, “The Fall” – “Restoration”
  • Grieving for the special case of death by suicide. Its unique impact on survivors. Asking the “WHY” question. Why now? Shame?
  • Grieving by Christians for the death of one who never made a profession of faith in Christ. Where are they now?  HEAVEN or HELL?  YOU can’t change it.  Leave that decision to God!

Suicide is an act of the human will operating from a mind in great desperation that sees no escape from the current living conditions.  It is a sin, self-murder, from which you cannot repent. It causes an additional level of mourning in the survivors because it evokes a question that doesn’t apply to previous grief levels; “Why did they do it?” “Why now? “  “Didn’t they realize it would hurt all that love them?”  In death by suicide, grieving expands to include the person's mental, emotional health, and behavioral factors.  In addition to our grief, we must deal even further with the “What IF” questions and our “IF Only” responses.  Suicide makes mourning longer, more difficult, and more complex.  It also raises, “WHY?” questions we don’t want to answer.
